The RV2502AE is an excellent mid-range robot cleaner that ticks all the boxes. It's easy to use and produces precise home maps, and has a bagless self-emptying cleaner base that self-empties. It's also cheaper to run than other robot vacuums.

It is a plethora of power. It makes use of its side brushes to move hair and carpet fibers into the brushroll. This stops the brushroll from clogging up and becoming a mess, like other robotic vacuums. This makes the machine more effective in removing hair from pets.

It's a great option for most homes, however its navigation abilities may be a problem for certain. Contrary to other bump robots that are able to avoid stairs, this one had difficulty with stairs. It relied on LiDAR sensors and infrared sensors to map my home but it was constantly mistaking my cat condo as stairs and asked me if I wanted to move it. It also had a shorter runtime than advertised, with only 180 minutes.

Self-Empty Base

A few robots - including this one - feature self-emptying bases that can vacuum or dump the debris from the dust bin on board into an external dirt container to make maintenance easier. These are called Clean Base Dirt Disposal (iRobot), Auto Empty Station (Ecovacs) or bagless self-cleaning robots Self-Emptying Base (Shark). They're a wonderful convenience, however they can be a bit messy and noisy, plus they typically require the use of specific disposal bags.

This Shark model includes an HEPA filtering bagless self-cleaning robots base. It has a large capacity. It can hold debris for up to 60 days, and does not need to be emptied daily like some other models. There's also a huge amount of incredible Shark suction to tackle even the most difficult mess. The only issue is that the docking station's vacuum system that is used to empty the dust bin on board is quite loud.

When the robot is plugged into an outlet on the wall and charged the battery, a beep is heard and an green light will blink across its top to show it's ready to begin cleaning. When the battery of the robot is low it will be able to dock itself to its base and stop working until it is recharged. It's important that the dock or Self-Empty Base is positioned where it isn't obstructed by furniture or other objects and is free of obstructions in the area in front of it.

While it's somewhat more expensive than the other mid-range robotic mops we've tried, it's well-built and has better performance on bare floors, a longer maximum battery life, less maintenance requirements, and a broader variety of automation features, including virtual boundary markers. The iRobot Roomba i7 is still our top choice, however, because it feels more refined and durable, charges faster, and is able to be stuck on rug tassels less often. It also has a larger capacity for its battery.

Easy Setup

The Shark AI Ultra comes with a simple-to-use Schedule that takes only few inputs. You can select the date and time for sunrise and sunset. You can also select the duration of the ramp times (increasing brightness or decreasing brightness) and whether to switch on the lights at night.

It does not have smart mapping or voice control like Alexa and Google Assistant but it has a very useful free programming suite.
